The tiny, bloodsucking pests are infesting everything from homes to luxury hotels.

According to a local hotel review website report, the creepy crawlers are up 500 percent from 2010 in the Puget Sound region.

“When the weather got sunny and people started coming in for the Alaskan cruises or just to visit Pike Pace, the reports started taking off,” said Philip Vaughn, founder of Kirkland based hotel review website raveable.com. According to the report, bed bugs are now skyrocketing — even at luxury hotels in Seattle.

“We saw a huge summer increase in Seattle specifically,” said Vaughn.

Why the increase?

Bed bugs are known as “hitchhikers” and more people travel during the summer months.

“They do not discriminate,” said Vaughn. “A bedbug will stay anywhere it can. People think that it’s always going to be some hotel they wouldn’t stay in, but they can hitch a ride on anybody’s suitcase and end up in any hotel … . They don’t care if it’s a five-star hotel or a motel.”
